During the ongoing federal government shutdown, AFGE Local 899 remains committed to supporting every TSA officer at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP). We understand the strain this situation places on officers and their families, and we are working tirelessly to ensure accurate information, representation, and resources are available throughout this period.
This page will serve as a central hub for updates, community support contacts, and resources to help officers navigate the shutdown. For those in the community wishing to help, Local 899 cannot directly accept donations, but the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) Passenger Engagement Office is coordinating all community support for TSA employees:
📞 612-726-5555
We thank the public for their continued solidarity and generosity.

AFGE Local 899 has worked with Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) in Bloomington to help TSA officers who may need assistance paying rent during the shutdown. VEAP has agreed to prioritize TSA officers for rental assistance screening. If you need help with rent, please contact VEAP directly and identify yourself as a TSA employee.
Phone: 952-888-9616 ext. 147 or Email: socialservices@veap.org
When contacting VEAP, please mention “TSA Rental Assistance” in the subject line of your email or in your voicemail so their staff can help expedite your request.
VEAP case managers will screen applicants for eligibility. Income limits apply and may vary depending on where you live and which funding sources are available.
If possible, have the following information ready before contacting VEAP:
• Income documentation from the last 60 days for every adult in the household, including adult children
Examples include pay stubs, Social Security statements, unemployment benefits, child support, or any other income sources.
• Contact information for your landlord or property manager, including name, email, and phone number. VEAP will need to send them forms to complete.
• Any eviction notices, late rent notices, or statements from your landlord.
Preparing these items in advance can help VEAP process requests more quickly.
AFGE Local 899 remains committed to connecting officers and their families with resources during this shutdown. If additional assistance programs become available, we will continue to share them.
In addition to rental assistance, Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) offers a wide range of services that may help TSA officers and their families during the shutdown.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, VEAP may be able to assist with several types of support depending on eligibility and available funding.
Food Assistance
VEAP operates one of the largest food shelves in the area and provides grocery support to families experiencing financial hardship.
Rental Assistance
Financial assistance may be available to help with rent for qualifying households.
Utility Assistance
VEAP may be able to assist with past due utility bills or help prevent shutoff in certain situations.
Social Services Case Management
VEAP case managers work with individuals and families to identify available resources and connect them with assistance programs in the community.
Basic Needs Support
VEAP may be able to connect individuals with resources for essential needs such as housing stability, food security, and financial support programs.
TSA officers can contact VEAP directly and identify themselves as TSA employees so their request can be prioritized during the shutdown.
Phone: 952-888-9616 ext. 147 or Email: socialservices@veap.org
If emailing, include “TSA Assistance” in the subject line so VEAP staff can help route your request more quickly.
AFGE Local 899 remains committed to connecting officers and their families with community resources during this shutdown.
We understand this shutdown is placing unprecedented financial strain on federal employees and their families. That’s why AFGE is allowing members in a non-pay status to temporarily pause E-Dues payments for the duration of the government shutdown.
To delay your dues, contact your Local President or Secretary-Treasurer individually to request a hardship pause to your E-Dues payments. They will email you a secure link for transmitting proof of non-pay status during the shutdown and for signing the hardship request agreement.
Please download the TSA Letter to Creditors below. This document will serve as your proof of non-pay status.
If your request is approved, no dues will be collected for the duration of the government shutdown. Once the shutdown ends, all missed dues will be collected automatically in the next billing cycle.
A national initiative by AFGE mobilizing resources, information and advocacy to end the federal government shutdown and protect federal employees. Visit their campaign page for instructions on contacting your representatives, accessing support during the shutdown, and finding local organizing materials.

During the current government shutdown, AFGE Local 899 worked with Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP) and the MSP Airport Commission to coordinate a grocery box distribution for TSA officers and their families.
Through this effort, VEAP delivered hundreds of prepacked grocery boxes to Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport to help officers and their families who may be facing financial hardship during the shutdown.
The grocery boxes were distributed at MSP Airport’s Silver Ramp, the same location used during previous shutdown assistance efforts, so officers could easily access the support.
This initiative was coordinated to ensure that officers and their families had access to basic food resources while the shutdown continues.
AFGE Local 899 appreciates VEAP and the MSP Airport Commission for working with us to support TSA officers during this difficult time.
If additional assistance opportunities become available, AFGE Local 899 will continue working with community partners and sharing those resources with officers.
